What Are the Benefits of Using Cryotherapy to Treat Symptoms of Injury?
Cryotherapy as a method of treatment has a number of benefits. These include:Â
- Improves joint mobility
- Significantly reduces swelling and inflammationÂ
- Eases muscle tensionÂ
- Faster recovery process
- Improves circulation through affected areaÂ
What Size Cuff Should I Choose?Â
The Aircast Shoulder Cryo/Cuff is available in three different sizes depending on your chest circumference. The larger of the three sizes is noted in conjunction with the additional strap. See the diagram below to find out which size best suits you:
Which Cooler Unit Should I Choose?
The Aircast Cryo Cuff system can be used with either one of two cooler units depending on your needs. Both cooler units offer six to eight hours of gravity-fed compression therapy, but differ in the amount of compression therapy they can provide. The two cooler units are:
- Aircast Standard Cold Therapy Cooler – Standard gravity-fed cooler unit to provide constant compression and cold therapy
- Aircast Automatic Cold Therapy IC Cooler – Same cooler unit, but powered via a pump to provide intermittent compression therapy, resulting in improved circulation through the affected area
How Do I Use the Cryo/Cuff?Â
For a step-by-step guide on how to prepare, apply and use the Cryo/Cuff, please see below:Â
Step One: Prepare the CoolerÂ
Fill the cooler to the line with water, add ice and lay the insulation disk on top. Connect the blue tube to the cooler and close the lid. Allow up to five minutes for the water to cool, shaking the cooler occasionally.Â
Step Two: Apply the Cuff
To apply the cuff, attach the main straps around the torso and secure. (See figure 1). Use assistance if needed.
Next, secure the underarm strap before doing the same with the front and back elastic straps. (See figures 2 and 3).Â
Step Three: Fill the CuffÂ
For this step, you will need your cooler. Start by connecting the blue tube to the cuff. Open the cooler air vent located on the lid and lift the cooler so its base is level with the top of the cuff. (See figure 4). Hold the cooler in this position for approximately one minute, or until the cuff is full. Close cooler air vent and disconnect the cooler from the cuff using the metal tab to use freely.Â
Step Four: Rechill WaterÂ
Reconnect the blue tube to the cuff and raise the cuff above the level of the cooler. Wait for the cuff to drain of water and allow one to two minutes for the water to rechill. Once this time has passed, raise the cooler above the cuff and start the refilling process again.Â
For more information on how to use the cuff, please see the manual below:Â
- User Instruction ManualÂ
How Long Should I Use the Cuff For?Â
You can use the cuff for up to two hours for each cryotherapy session. We recommend that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between each therapy session.Â
Do I Need to Protect My Skin While Using the Cuff?
It is important that you wrap your skin with a cloth or bandage (or something similar) when using the device, in order to create a barrier between your skin and the cuff. At no point during treatment should the cuff and skin be in direct contact.Â
How Do I Clean the Cryo/Cuff?Â
To keep the cuff clean between each use, drain the cuff of water and wash with soap and hot water. Repeat this a few times before rinsing with water only and leaving to dry. This process can be used to clean both the blue tube and cooler units as well.Â
